Injury Bug Bites Dodgers – Dee Gordon Joins Andre Ethier, Matt Kemp On The DL

dee-gordon-dodgersFor the Los Angeles Dodgers April and May must seem like a dream. The Dodgers were off to one of their best starts ever, and then injuries started to come.  in bunches. Two more Dodgers joined the growing DL today.

Shortstop Dee Gordon will need surgery on his right thumb is expected to miss the next six weeks.

The injury was first diagnosed as a dislocated thumb but upon further examination it was discovered he has a torn old are collateral ligament.

The light hitting Gordon leads the majors with 30 stolen bases.

Gordon will join Andre Ethier who was placed on the disabled list with an oblique injury. Ethier would be eligible to come off the DL in the first game after the all star break, however, oblique injuries are sometimes slow to heal.

Ethier,  signed a five-year, $85 million contract extension in mid-June, was hitting .291 with 10 homers and an .848 OPS in 75 games when he suffered the injury.

Meanwhile, Matt Kemp who  has been on the disabled list continues to rehab at Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. The Dodgers slide coincided with losing camp. Kemp aggravated his injured hamstring in his first attempt to come back from the injury.

The Dodgers lost 13 of their last 15 games in June.
