SEATTLE – Led by Kevin Millwood the Seattle Mariners used six pitchers to pitch the 10th combined no-hitter in major league baseball history and beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 . Millwood pitched the front six innings, striking out six and walking one.
While warming up for the seventh he felt a twinge in his groin and was pulled from the game. He was followed by Charlie Furbush, Stephen Pryor, Lucas Luetge, Brandon League and Tom Wilhelmsen to complete the no-no. Rookie Jesus Montero was the catcher. Kyle Seager singled to left in the seventh inning and Ichiro Suzuki scored for the game’s only run.
Dee Gordon was called out at first base on a close play in the ninth-inning. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly came out for a token argument and the game continued, with Wilhelmsen retiring Andre Ethier on a routine grounder to end it.
